Moob Reduction Surgery is on the Rise

American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery-logo

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) stated that, for the year of 2011, there were 204,000 cosmetic surgical procedures performed on men by ASPS member surgeons. Of that number, nearly 20,000 were for male breast reduction surgery (also known as Moobs) for the treatment of gynecomastia.

Male breast reduction surgery is the 4th most popular procedure, following rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and liposuction. Rhinoplasty procedures decreased 2% from 2010, and eyelid surgery decreased 9%, and liposuction was down 3%. What is interesting is that of these popular procedures, gynecomastia surgery increased at a rate of 8% over 2010.

For a long time men suffered silently, not realizing that a high percentage of men shared their condition and even more surprising that there are solutions. Now men with gynecomastia, also known as man boobs or moobs are gaining relief from the problem. The internet has brought invaluable information to men in regard to treatment. Web sites like gynecomastia.org provide vast amounts of information, support from other members, and a directory to help them locate a gynecomastia specialist near them.

Dr. Miguel Delgado sees patients at his 450 Sutter Street, San Francisco office and at 165 Rowland Way, Novato California. Patients come to see Dr. Delgado from all over the United States and even out of the country. For more information or to schedule a consultation, call (415) 898-4161.

Is Gynecomastia (Often Called “Moobs”) Hereditary?

Adolescent gynecomastia

If there is a family history of gynecomastia, it is possible to inherit the condition, but not always. Sometimes one brother could inherit it and not another.

There are some genetic conditions such as Klinefelter’s syndrome and Gilbert’s syndrome that can cause the development of the male breast. The more common inherited cause is hormonal imbalance occurring in boys ranging in age from 12 to 18. For these boys, generally it settles down when they pass puberty. For a small percentage, it will persist for life, leaving gynecomastia surgery, or moob reduction surgery, as the only option for reduction.

For Sacramento men developing gynecomastia breasts in their adult years, it could be due to medications they may be taking. Gynecomastia.org has a comprehensive list of drugs that have been known to cause man boobs or “moobs” for some men.

“Moobs”, Also Known as Gynecomastia or Male Breast Reduction

There a lot of slang terms for males with large breasts.  Moobs, man boobs, man breasts, man chi chis — none of these names are complimentary, and can often wound gynecomastia sufferers.  Fortunately, “gynecomastia surgery” offers a solution.  Dr. Miguel Delgado, Jr., M.D., is a plastic surgeon and gynecomastia specialist who has been surgically treating gynecomastia for 25 years.  Please contact his office at 415-898-4161 for more information, or visit http://www.moobreduction.com/.
