The gynecvomastia two-stage procedure is an innovative approach to severe gynecomastia, designed by Dr. Delgado himself. This procedure can treat the most complicated forms of gynecomastia and create a lifted, masculine chest.
What is the Two-Stage Procedure?
Two-stage breast reduction surgery is a technique developed by Dr. Delgado to treat severe gynecomastia, the most complicated condition for a gynecomastia surgeon to treat. This two-step procedure allows Dr. Delgado to tighten and contour the chest more effectively when there is a significant amount of excess breast tissue that needs to be removed.
Who is a Candidate?
The two-stage procedure was designed for patients with severe cases of gynecomastia which is usually a combination of large, puffy nipples and significantly enlarged male breasts. Dr. Delgado can assess your condition to determine which treatment option is best for you at your initial consultation. If a less complex surgical method can be used for your male breast reduction surgery, he will always choose the more conservative method.

This treatment involves two stages or separate surgeries. The first procedure is a standard male breast reduction surgery performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Glandular tissue will be removed through a small, half-moon-shaped incision at the edge of the nipple-areolar complex. Excess fatty tissue and skin will be removed to elevate the nipple-areolar complex which may have sunken or started to point downward. This will create a flatter chest appearance, but there may still be excess skin that requires a second male breast reduction procedure.
The second procedure is a minor surgery performed as an in-office treatment under local anesthesia. A section of skin is removed from around the nipple-areolar complex in a circular shape and a purse-string permanent suture is tightened around the nipple-areolar complex. This will pull the skin tighter to improve the shape of the areola and surrounding area while eliminating the bulge of excess fat and glandular tissue in the lower breast fold.
Surgical Recovery
The two stages of this procedure are scheduled 4-6 months apart so that the body has ample time to heal between surgeries. After the second surgical procedure, the breast area will be wrapped with bandages and a compression garment which should be worn for about 6 weeks to reduce swelling and keep the newly contoured breast tissue in place. Once healed, you should have minimal scarring that is hidden in the natural folds of your breasts and you can enjoy a flat, contoured chest.
At your consultation, you will receive a gynecomastia surgery guide to help guide you through the recovery process. Dr. Delgado will also request out-of-town patients to stay in a hotel for the first few days so that he can be accessible to ask any questions and address any complications that may occur.
Risks and Complications
There are risks after any cosmetic surgery, but Dr. Delgado and his team have many years of experience performing gynecomastia surgery and most patients do not face serious complications. The main risks are excessive bleeding, a bad reaction to anesthesia, and scarring. Dr. Delgado uses advanced surgical techniques to prevent these complications and ensure you have great results.
