Moob Reduction Surgery is on the Rise
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) stated that, for the year of 2011, there were 204,000 cosmetic surgical procedures performed on men by ASPS member surgeons. Of that number, nearly 20,000 were for male breast reduction surgery (also known as Moobs) for the treatment of gynecomastia.
Male breast reduction surgery is the 4th most popular procedure, following rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and liposuction. Rhinoplasty procedures decreased 2% from 2010, and eyelid surgery decreased 9%, and liposuction was down 3%. What is interesting is that of these popular procedures, gynecomastia surgery increased at a rate of 8% over 2010.
For a long time men suffered silently, not realizing that a high percentage of men shared their condition and even more surprising that there are solutions. Now men with gynecomastia, also known as man boobs or moobs are gaining relief from the problem. The internet has brought invaluable information to men in regard to treatment. Web sites like gynecomastia.org provide vast amounts of information, support from other members, and a directory to help them locate a gynecomastia specialist near them.
